After a successful career in the High Tech industry Christine made the decision to focus her energy and talents on her true passion – design. Her initial training began at a very early age in France under the tutelage of her Grandmother and Great Grandmother who came from a line of haute couturiers going back to the palace of Napoleon III. She was able to study the art of costume making with her great aunt who served as the Costume Mistress for the Opera de Strasbourg for over twenty years. The exposure to a wide variety of cultural influences while being raised both in France and the US has had a significant impact on her design style and technique.
Color is the driving force and Christine’s signature touch when she begins the process of bringing the look of a ballet to life. She was first recognized for her ability to create unique color combinations at the age of ten while attending a summer intensive art program at Bowers Museum in Southern California. Her mother who is a professional artist fostered this talent and provided extensive exposure and opportunities in the use of color.
It was this background that provided her with an appreciation of all the artistic elements which must be combined in the production of costumes that are both beautiful and functional. Christine thoroughly researches each ballet and character to create the costumes that will reveal the character, propel the story, adhere to the time period, compliment the set design and above all give the dancer the ability to move. Christine is known to say that she is “creating evening wear that has to function as athletic wear.” She has furthered her education in this field by studying with Travis Halsey designer for the Joffrey and Houston Ballets, and Claudia Folts, owner of Tutu.com.
