Jeanne Elser Smith is an accomplished educator, curriculum designer, and former professional ballet dancer whose career bridges the worlds of performing arts and child development. As a professional dancer with the Pennsylvania Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, and Hartford Ballet, she performed soloist and principal roles in works by renowned choreographers including George Balanchine, Todd Bolender, Lar Lubovitch, Michael Uthoff, as well as in classical repertory by August Bournonville and Marius Petipa.

Drawing on her extensive artistic background and passion for child-centered learning, Jeanne created an original Movement Art Curriculum and founded the Young Children’s Program at the Miami City Ballet School. Her innovative approach integrates movement, creativity, and developmental principles to nurture the whole child.

Jeanne holds master’s degrees in Elementary Education, Montessori Education, and Gifted and Talented Education from Lesley University and Southern Methodist University. She also holds American Montessori Early Childhood and Instructor certifications, reflecting her deep commitment to excellence in Montessori teacher preparation and educational leadership.

Today, Jeanne serves as Lead Montessori Guide at Dealey Montessori Academy, the oldest public Montessori school in Dallas, leads DISD teacher development, and as an instructor for the Dallas Montessori Teacher Education Program. Through her teaching, mentoring, and curriculum development, she continues to inspire children and educators alike, combining artistry, academic rigor, and a lifelong dedication to fostering curiosity, independence, and joyful learning.
